[Al-Quran 50:6-8] Have they not looked at the heaven above them - how We structured it and adorned it and how it has no rifts? Family of Imran (3:59)

Indeed, the example of Jesus in the sight of Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust, then said to him, “Be!” And he was!

— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

Surely, the case of ‘Īsā , in the sight of Allah, is like the case of ’Edam . He created him from dust, then He said to him, “Be”, and he came to be.

— T. Usmani

Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allāh[1] is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was.

— Saheeh International

[1]- i.e., regarding His creation of him.

In God’s eyes Jesus is just like Adam: He created him from dust, said to him, ‘Be’, and he was.

— M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

 59. Verily, the likeness of ‘Îsâ (Jesus) before Allâh is the likeness of Adam. He created him from dust, then (He) said to him: "Be!" - and he was.

— Al-Hilali & Khan

Surely, in the sight of Allah, the similitude of the creation of Jesus is as the creation of Adam whom He created out of dust, and then said: 'Be', and he was.1

— A. Maududi (Tafhim commentary)

[1]This means that if Jesus' miraculous birth is sufficient proof that he should be regarded either as God or as the son of God then there are even stronger grounds to apply this to Adam. For, while Jesus was born without a father, Adam was born with neither father nor mother.

Lo! the likeness of Jesus with Allah is as the likeness of Adam. He created him of dust, then He said unto him: Be! and he is.

— M. Pickthall

The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: "Be". And he was.

— A. Yusuf Ali

— Fe Zilal al-Qur'an

— Tafheem e Qur'an - Syed Abu Ali Maududi

— Maulana Muhammad Junagarhi

— Fatah Muhammad Jalandhari

— Shaykh al-Hind Mahmud al-Hasan(with Tafsir E Usmani)

— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

— Abul Ala Maududi(Roman Urdu)

Allah creates the hardware and then He speaks the software.

Allah created Adam with His Own Hands.

Allah breathed into Adam His Ruh.

Allah sent a Messenger to Mary (Maryam alaihisalam) to breathe into her the Command to conceive Jesus (Isa alaihisalam).

According to Allah, the creation of Jesus is similar to the creation of Adam:

  • Allah created Adam from dust, and then spoke him into existence (Q3:59)
  • Allah sent His angels to give His Word to Mary to conceive Jesus (Q3:45)
  • Jesus created the form of a bird from clay, and then, blew into it, to make it come alive, with Allah's permission (Q3:49).

The creation of the form of a bird, and then, the making of its coming alive, was a clear sign from Allah for a Bani Israel.

Adam was a bashr, Jesus was a bashr, and Jesus was a Prophet, and a Messenger to the Bani Israel. Jesus never claimed divinity.

Family of Imran (3:79)

It is not appropriate for someone who Allah has blessed with the Scripture, wisdom, and prophethood to say to people, “Worship me instead of Allah.” Rather, he would say, “Be devoted to the worship of your Lord ˹alone˺—by virtue of what you read in the Scripture and what you teach.”

— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

It is not (possible) for a man that Allah gives him the Book, the wisdom and the prophethood, then he starts saying to the people “Become my worshippers, aside from Allah” rather, (he would say), “Be men of the Lord; as you have been teaching the Book, and as you have been learning it.”

— T. Usmani

It is not for a human [prophet][1] that Allāh should give him the Scripture[2] and authority and prophethood and then he would say to the people, "Be servants to me rather than Allāh," but [instead, he would say], "Be pious scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and because of what you have studied."

— Saheeh International

[1]Or any believer.

[2]Or in the case of Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ), 'the Book' (i.e., the Qur’ān) .

No person to whom God had given the Scripture, wisdom, and prophethood would ever say to people, ‘Be my servants, not God’s.’ [He would say], ‘You should be devoted to God because you have taught the Scripture and studied it closely.’

— M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

 79. It is not (possible) for any human being to whom Allâh has given the Book and Al-Hukm (the knowledge and understanding of the laws of religion) and Prophethood to say to the people: "Be my worshippers rather than Allâh’s." On the contrary (he would say): "Be you Rabbâniyyûn (learned men of religion who practise what they know and also preach others), because you are teaching the Book, and you are studying it."

— Al-Hilali & Khan

It does not befit a man that Allah should grant him His Book and sound judgement and prophet-hood, and thereafter he should say to men: 'Become servants to me apart from Allah.' He would rather say: 'Become dedicated men of Allah,1 in accord with the dictates of the Book you have been teaching and studying.'

— A. Maududi (Tafhim commentary)

[1]The term rabbani is used here to denote Jewish religious scholars and functionaries who were supposed to provide true religious guidance to establish their rites of worship, implement religious laws, and so on. The same word occurs in( Surah 5: 44 and  63). In the Christian tradition the word 'divine' is used as an equivalent to the word rabbani.

It is not (possible) for any human being unto whom Allah had given the Scripture and wisdom and the prophethood that he should afterwards have said unto mankind: Be slaves of me instead of Allah; but (what he said was): Be ye faithful servants of the Lord by virtue of your constant teaching of the Scripture and of your constant study thereof.

— M. Pickthall

It is not (possible) that a man, to whom is given the Book, and Wisdom, and the prophetic office, should say to people: "Be ye my worshippers rather than Allah's": on the contrary (He would say) "Be ye worshippers of Him Who is truly the Cherisher of all: For ye have taught the Book and ye have studied it earnestly."

— A. Yusuf Ali

— Fe Zilal al-Qur'an

— Tafheem e Qur'an - Syed Abu Ali Maududi

— Maulana Muhammad Junagarhi

— Fatah Muhammad Jalandhari

— Shaykh al-Hind Mahmud al-Hasan(with Tafsir E Usmani)

Kisi Insaan ka yeh kaam nahin hai ke Allah to usko kitab aur hukum aur nabuwat ata farmaye aur woh logon se kahey ke Allah ke bajaye tum mere banday ban jao. Woh to yahi kahega ke sacchey Rabbani bano jaisa ke is kitab ki taleem ka taqaza hai jisey tum padhte aur padhate ho

The word 'مَهْدًۭا' is used to describe how Allah has made or appointed (جَعَلَ) the Earth (ٱلْأَرْضَ) for us (لَكُمُ).

The root 'م ه د' occurs sixteen times in The Quran. Exploring the usage of the words in the various ayaat:

The kafirs (rejectors /disbelievers) are being warned that they will be overcome. The example of Pharaoh and his family, and those before them, is presented in the previous ayat (Q3:11). There will be the best of rewards for those who respond to their Lord; those who do not respond would willingly give away the earth’s contents twice over, if they had it, in order to ransom themselves, so terrible will be their reckoning. Hell will be their home, and their bed wretched.

— M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

For those who respond to their Lord is a good recompense.

Those who do not, they will face their terrible reckoning, and a terrible bed in Hell.

Have We not made the earth a resting place?

 6. Have We not made the earth as a bed,

— Al-Hilali & Khan

— Fatah Muhammad Jalandhari

The Earth is a resting place, a bed, for each one of us. We live upon it, and we are buried in it. Each one in his or her own grave.

Notice that the usage of the word in all the ayaat quoted above consistently applies to each person individually. So, it is talking about the micro shape of the Earth. Exploring a few more ayaat:

Q3:46, Q5:110 and Q19:29 are mentioning Jesus' miraculous ability to speak from the 'الْمَهْدِ', translated as cradle.
Q20:53 has been quoted at the beginning of this post.
Q43:10 is also similarly worded: '
So, a cradle, or a bed, is a place of rest for a human being. Such a structure may be a cube, a cuboid, or an ovoid. Some shape with volume. Yet, it is one for each person. It can be comfortable, or it can be discomforting. Generally, graves are cuboid shaped. Similarly, beds and houses upon the Earth are also generally cuboid-shaped. Cradles may be a bit more ovoid in shape.

The Winnowing Winds (51:48)

And the earth was spread out by Us as a floor; so how well have We spread it out!

— T. Usmani

And We have spread out the (spacious) earth: How excellently We do spread out!

— A. Yusuf Ali

— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

Regarding the Earth in general, again we find the use of the same root. So, assuming it is again informing of the micro structure, what does modern research's finding is? To quote from University of Pennsylvania's website (emphasis mine):

In a new paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, a team from the University of PennsylvaniaBudapest University of Technology and Economics, and University of Debrecen uses math, geology, and physics to demonstrate that the average shape of rocks on Earth is a cube

Dajjals in The Quran

The False Messiahs in The Past

Are you ˹O Prophet˺ not aware of the one who argued with Abraham about his Lord because Allah had granted him kingship? ˹Remember˺ when Abraham said, “My Lord is the One Who has power to give life and cause death.” He argued, “I too have the power to give life and cause death.” Abraham challenged ˹him˺, “Allah causes the sun to rise from the east. So make it rise from the west.” And so the disbeliever was dumbstruck. And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.

— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

Have you not considered the one who argued with Abraham about his Lord [merely] because Allāh had given him kingship? When Abraham said, "My Lord is the one who gives life and causes death," he said, "I give life and cause death." Abraham said, "Indeed, Allāh brings up the sun from the east, so bring it up from the west." So the disbeliever was overwhelmed [by astonishment], and Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.

— Saheeh International

Bethink thee of him who had an argument with Abraham about his Lord, because Allah had given him the kingdom; how, when Abraham said: My Lord is He Who giveth life and causeth death, he answered: I give life and cause death. Abraham said: Lo! Allah causeth the sun to rise in the East, so do thou cause it to come up from the West. Thus was the disbeliever abashed. And Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.

— M. Pickthall

Hast thou not Turned thy vision to one who disputed with Abraham About his Lord, because Allah had granted him power? Abraham said: "My Lord is He Who Giveth life and death." He said: "I give life and death". Said Abraham: "But it is Allah that causeth the sun to rise from the east: Do thou then cause him to rise from the West." Thus was he confounded who (in arrogance) rejected faith. Nor doth Allah Give guidance to a people unjust.

— A. Yusuf Ali

[The Cow (2:258)]

The King who claimed power over life and death thus argued with Prophet Abraham.

The ayat quoted above follows the three ayaat (2:255 ayat al-kursi), (2:256 no compulsion in Deen), (2:257 Allah takes towards Nur, while atTaghut (ٱلطَّـٰغُوتُ) takes towards darknesses). Reading 2:257 again:

Allah is the Guardian of the believers—He brings them out of darkness and into light. As for the disbelievers, their guardians are false gods who lead them out of light and into darkness. It is they who will be the residents of the Fire. They will be there forever.

— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

Allāh is the Ally[1] of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the light. And those who disbelieve - their allies are ṭāghūt. They take them out of the light into darknesses.[2] Those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein.

— Saheeh International

[1]Including the meanings of patron, supporter, benefactor, guardian, protector, defender and caretaker.

[2]The light of truth is one, while the darknesses of disbelief, doubt and error are many.

Allah is the Protecting Guardian of those who believe. He bringeth them out of darkness into light. As for those who disbelieve, their patrons are false deities. They bring them out of light into darkness. Such are rightful owners of the Fire. They will abide therein.

— M. Pickthall

Allah is the Protector of those who have faith: from the depths of darkness He will lead them forth into light. Of those who reject faith the patrons are the evil ones: from light they will lead them forth into the depths of darkness. They will be companions of the fire, to dwell therein (For ever).

— A. Yusuf Ali

[The Cow (2:257)]

The Taghut (ٱلطَّـٰغُوتُ) are protecting friends of the disbelievers, the rejectors, those who reject Allah and His Deen. Though there is no compulsion in religion (Deen), yet the legally correct (ٱلرُّشْدُ) and legally wrong (ٱلْغَىِّ) have been laid out. Q2:256 spells that out:

Let there be no compulsion in religion, for the truth stands out clearly from falsehood.[1] So whoever renounces false gods and believes in Allah has certainly grasped the firmest, unfailing hand-hold. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

[1] This verse was revealed when some new Muslims tried to force their Jewish and Christian children to convert to Islam after the Prophet’s emigration (Hijrah) to Medina. The verse prohibits forced conversion.

There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become distinct from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in ṭāghūt[1] and believes in Allāh has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

— Saheeh International

[1]- False objects of worship, such as idols, heavenly bodies, spirits, human beings, etc.

There is no compulsion in religion. The right direction is henceforth distinct from error. And he who rejecteth false deities and believeth in Allah hath grasped a firm handhold which will never break. Allah is Hearer, Knower.

— M. Pickthall

Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.

— A. Yusuf Ali

[The Cow (2:256)]

The Taghut (ٱلطَّـٰغُوتُ) has been variously translated in the above ayat as: false gods, false objects of worship, false deities, evil.

T. Usmani, in his translation, does not translate the word, but puts 'the Rebel, the Satan' in parenthesis.

Syed Abu Ali Maududi, in his Tafheem e Qur'an, writes about Taghut thus:

Roughly translating:

Taghut, according to the dictionary, will be every person who exceeds his rightful limits. In Quran's use of the terminology, Taghut is that 'slave' who exceeds the limit of slavery and declares himself the Lord God, and makes Allah's slaves worship himself instead. There are three levels of rebellion against Allah in a slave: first, on principle, he accepts that Allah deserves obedience, but practically, he disobeys: that is called 'fisq'; second, on principle he refuses to obey, or declares himself independent, or worships someone else: that is called 'kufr'; third, he rebels against the Lord, and starts to impose his commands on Allah's country (kingdom) and his subjects: this is the last stage and is known as 'taghut'; and no person can be a true believer in Allah until he rejects the Taghut.

So, going back to the story of the king who argued with Prophet Abraham: the king claimed power over life and death. From other places in The Quran, we know that he tried to kill Prophet Abraham by throwing him in a huge fire, yet by Allah's command, the fire became cool and did not harm Abraham. Thus, he was saved by Divine intervention:

They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act."

We [i.e., Allāh] said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham."

[The Prophets (21:68-69), Translation: Saheeh International]

Fast-forward to the time of Prophet-Messenger Moses. There was another claimant of power who rejected Allah as the true God:

79:15

Has the story of Moses reached you ˹O Prophet˺?

[1] The staff turning into a snake. See 20:17-23.

And he showed him the greatest sign,[1]

— Saheeh International

[1]- i.e., the miracle of his staff becoming a great snake.

And he showed him the tremendous token.

Then did (Moses) show him the Great Sign.

79:21

but he denied and disobeyed ˹Allah˺,

But he [i.e., Pharaoh] denied and disobeyed.

But he denied and disobeyed,

But (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed (guidance);

79:22

then turned his back, striving ˹against the truth˺.

— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

Then he turned his back, striving [i.e., plotting].[1]

— Saheeh International

[1]- An alternative meaning is 'running [from the snake].'

Then turned he away in haste,

— M. Pickthall

Further, he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah).

— A. Yusuf Ali

79:23

Then he summoned ˹his people˺ and called out,

Then gathered he and summoned

79:24

saying, “I am your lord, the most high!”

And said, "I am your most exalted lord."

And proclaimed: "I (Pharaoh) am your Lord the Highest."

Saying, "I am your Lord, Most High".

— A. Yusuf Ali

79:25

So Allah overtook him, making him an example in this life and the next.

— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

So Allāh seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression].[1].

— Saheeh International

[1]- i.e., for Pharaoh's setting himself up as a deity and for his previous oppression of the people and denial of Moses.

So Allah seized him (and made him) an example for the after (life) and for the former.

— M. Pickthall

But Allah did punish him, (and made an) example of him, - in the Hereafter, as in this life.

— A. Yusuf Ali

79:26

Surely in this is a lesson for whoever stands in awe of ˹Allah˺.

— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

Indeed in that is a lesson [i.e., warning] for whoever would fear [Allāh].

— Saheeh International

Lo! herein is indeed a lesson for him who feareth.

— M. Pickthall

Verily in this is an instructive warning for whosoever feareth (Allah).

— A. Yusuf Ali

[Those who drag forth (79:15-26)]

The Pharaoh who ruled at the time of Moses has been extensively discussed in The Quran. His deceptions, brutality, and false claims have been recorded. He misled his people away from the worship of the true God (Allah), and forced them to worship him and follow his Deen.

These days there is a great aversion against Islamic Shariah. In fact, there is no country anymore where Allah's Deen is the Law of the Land. Some of it still remains in Saudi Arabia and Iran, but that too is being diluted to adapt to the 'modern' world. Muslim leaders are apologetic when accused of trying to bring in Shariah laws.

Prophet Muhammad has foretold the coming of the Dajjal (false messiah) during end times, and then Allah sending Jesus (the true Messiah) to destroy the false messiah. So, in Surah alMuzammil, we read:

73:15

Indeed, We have sent to you a messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh.

— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger.

— Saheeh International

Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger.

— M. Pickthall

We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh.

— A. Yusuf Ali

73:16

But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a stern grip.

— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure.

— Saheeh International

But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip.

— M. Pickthall

But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment.

— A. Yusuf Ali

Hadith

The following are some Hadith which foretell the coming of dajjal. Reading them in the light of the above ayaat, it is difficult to miss the similarity between the deceivers of the past, and the deceiver to come:

Narrated Abu Sa`id: One day Allah's Messenger () narrated to us a long narration about Ad-Dajjal and among the things he narrated to us, was: "Ad-Dajjal will come, and he will be forbidden to enter the mountain passes of Medina. He will encamp in one of the salt areas neighboring Medina and there will appear to him a man who will be the best or one of the best of the people. He will say 'I testify that you are Ad-Dajjal whose story Allah's Messenger () has told us.' Ad-Dajjal will say (to his audience), 'Look, if I kill this man and then give him life, will you have any doubt about my claim?' They will reply, 'No,' Then Ad- Dajjal will kill that man and then will make him alive. The man will say, 'By Allah, now I recognize you more than ever!' Ad-Dajjal will then try to kill him (again) but he will not be given the power to do so."

Sahih al-Bukhari 7132

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: Allah's Messenger () told us a long narrative about Ad-Dajjal, and among the many things he mentioned, was his saying, "Ad-Dajjal will come and it will be forbidden for him to pass through the entrances of Medina. He will land in some of the salty barren areas (outside) Medina; on that day the best man or one of the best men will come up to him and say, 'I testify that you are the same Dajjal whose description was given to us by Allah's Messenger () .' Ad-Dajjal will say to the people, 'If I kill this man and bring him back to life again, will you doubt my claim?' They will say, 'No.' Then Ad-Dajjal will kill that man and bring him back to life. That man will say, 'Now I know your reality better than before.' Ad-Dajjal will say, 'I want to kill him but I cannot.' "

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported God's messenger as saying, "When the dajjal comes forth one of the believers will go towards him, and the armed men, those of the dajjal, will meet him and ask him where he is making for. He will reply that he is making for this man who has come forth, whereupon they will ask him whether he does not believe in their lord, and when he replies, `There is nothing hidden about our Lord,' they will say, `Kill him.' But they will ask one another whether their lord has not forbidden them to kill anyone without his knowledge, and so they will take him to the dajjal; and when the believer sees him, he will say, `0 people, this is the dajjal whom God's messenger mentioned.' The dajjal will then order that he be stretched out, saying, `Take him and stretch him out.' After he has been given many blows on his back and stomach, he will ask him if he does not believe in him, but he will reply that he is the false Messiah. He will then order him to be sawn with a saw from the parting of his hair to between his legs, after which the dajjal will walk between the two pieces and tell him to get up. When he stands up he will ask him if he believes in him, to which he will reply that he has simply received more insight into his true nature, adding, `0 people, no one will be treated thus after me.' The dajjal will then seize him to cut his throat, but the space between bis neck and his collar-bone will be turned into copper and he will find no way by which he can kill him, so he will take him by the hands and feet and throw him into the air, and the people will think he has thrown him into hell, but he will simply have been thrown into paradise." God's messenger said, "This will be the one who suffers the severest martyrdom in the sight of the Lord of the universe."

Muslim transmitted it.

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported Allah's Messenger () as saying: The Dajjal would come forth and a person from amongst the believers would go towards him and the armed men of the Dajjal would meet him and they would say to him: Where do you intend to go? He would say: I intend to go to this one who is coming forth. They would say to him: Don't you believe in our Lord? He would say: There is nothing hidden about our Lord. They would say: Kill him. Then some amongst them would say: Has your master (Dajjal) not forbidden you to kill anyone without (his consent)? And so they would take him to the Dajjal and when the believer would see him, he would say: O people. he is the Dajjil about whom Allah's Messenger () has informed (us). The Dajjal would then order for breaking his head and utter (these words): Catch hold of him and break his head. He would be struck even on his back and on his stomach. Then the Dajjal would ask him: Don't you believe in me? He would say: You are a false Masih. He would then order him to be torn (into pieces) with a saw from the parting of his hair up to his legs. After that the Dajjal would walk between the two pieces. He would then say to him: Stand, and he would stand erect. He would then say to him: Don't you believe in me? And the person would say: It has only added to my insight concerning you (that you are really the Dajjal). He would then say: O people, he would not behave with anyone amongst people (in such a manner) after me. The Dajjal would try to catch hold of him so that he should kill him (again). The space between his neck and collar bone would be turned into copper and he would find no means to kill him. So he would catch hold of him by his hand and feet and throw him (into the air) and the people would think as if he had been thrown in the Hell-Fire whereas he would be thrown in Paradise. Thereupon Allah's Messenger () said: He would be the most eminent amongst persons in regard to martyrdom in the eye of the Lord of the world.
