Humans: God's viceroy or Earth's viceroy?

Abstract

God has created the entire creation in perfect balance. God has placed humans as ‘khalifa’ on the Earth, entrusting it to humans, and giving humans the ability and the free will to do as they will. Moreover, humans have also been sent guidance and forewarned to not to upset the balance.

When God created Adam, He taught him knowledge, took a covenant from him, and honoured him above the angels. Iblis (Satan) rebelled and vowed to destroy Adam and his progeny. Adam was created as a ‘khalifa’ for the Earth. Adam was first tried in the Garden. The desire for Immortality and A Kingdom that Never Decays overcame Adam’s sense of duty, and thus, Satan was able to mislead Adam into attempting to change himself, consequently corrupting his genome. Adam failed to keep his covenant with God.  This led to their expulsion from the Garden.

Guidance

When they were being sent to Earth, they were consoled as well as warned:

[Quran 2:38, 2:39] We said, "Go down from it all (of you), and when, comes to you from Me Guidance, then whoever follows My Guidance, [then] no fear (will be) on them and not they will grieve. And those who disbelieve[d] and deny Our Signs, those (are the) companions (of) the Fire; they in it (will) abide forever."

As promised, God sent a series of Prophets and Messengers:

[Quran 6:83-92, Translator: Sahih International] And that was Our [conclusive] argument which We gave Abraham against his people. We raise by degrees whom We will. Indeed, your Lord is Wise and Knowing. And We gave to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - all [of them] We guided. And Noah, We guided before; and among his descendants, David and Solomon and Job and Joseph and Moses and Aaron. Thus do We reward the doers of good. And Zechariah and John and Jesus and Elias - and all were of the righteous. And Ishmael and Elisha and Jonah and Lot - and all [of them] We preferred over the worlds. And [some] among their fathers and their descendants and their brothers - and We chose them and We guided them to a straight path. That is the guidance of Allah by which He guides whomever He wills of His servants. But if they had associated others with Allah, then worthless for them would be whatever they were doing. Those are the ones to whom We gave the Scripture and authority and prophethood. But if the disbelievers deny it, then We have entrusted it to a people who are not therein disbelievers. Those are the ones whom Allah has guided, so from their guidance take an example. Say, "I ask of you for this message no payment. It is not but a reminder for the worlds." And they did not appraise Allah with true appraisal when they said, " Allah did not reveal to a human being anything." Say, "Who revealed the Scripture that Moses brought as light and guidance to the people? You [Jews] make it into pages, disclosing [some of] it and concealing much. And you were taught that which you knew not - neither you nor your fathers." Say, " Allah [revealed it]." Then leave them in their [empty] discourse, amusing themselves. And this is a Book which We have sent down, blessed and confirming what was before it, that you may warn the Mother of Cities and those around it. Those who believe in the Hereafter believe in it, and they are maintaining their prayers.

Balance

Surah Ar-Rahman (The Most Compassionate) recounts several wonderful creations of God. Before listing God’s favours, it warns that God has created everything in Balance, and that the Balance must not be upset:

[Quran 55:7 – 55:9, Translator: Literal (Word by Word)] And the heaven, He raised it and He has set up the balance, That not you may transgress in the balance. And establish the weight in justice and (do) not make deficient the balance.  

[Quran 57:25, Translator: Literal (Word by Word)] Certainly We sent Our Messengers with clear proofs and We sent down with them the Scripture and the Balance that may establish the people justice. And We sent down [the] iron, wherein (is) power mighty and benefits for the people, and so that Allah may make evident (he) who helps Him and His Messengers, unseen. Indeed, Allah (is) All-Strong All-Mighty.

Surah Al Shura, verse 13 informs us that this is the same religion that was enjoined on Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus. Verse 14 informs us that they became divided only after knowledge had reached them, and had it not been that God has given respite till an appointed term, the matter would have been decided. Verse 17 goes on to inform us that:  

[Quran 42:17, Translator: Literal (Word by Word)] Allah (is) the One Who (has) sent down the Book in truth, and the Balance. And what will make you know? Perhaps the Hour (is) near. 

As already discussed in Mission of the Messengers, Part I: World History & Future Implications, both the Quran and the Bible seem to be pointing to the inevitable, willful corruption of humans, and consequently, the eventual destruction through a flood.  

[Quran 17:58] And not (is) any town but We (will) destroy it before (the) Day (of) the Resurrection or punish it with a punishment severe. That is in the Book written.
