[Al-Quran 50:6-8] Have they not looked at the heaven above them - how We structured it and adorned it and how it has no rifts? And the earth - We spread it out and cast therein firmly set mountains and made grow therein [something] of every beautiful kind, Giving insight and a reminder for every servant who turns [to Allah].

Adam, Joseph, Earth

Surah Yusuf (Joseph) 12:1-7

Alif, Lām, Rā. These are the verses of the clear Book. Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’ān that you might understand. We relate to you, [O Muḥammad], the best of stories in what We have revealed to you of this Qur’ān although you were, before it, among the unaware. [Of these stories mention] when Joseph said to his father, "O my father, indeed I have seen [in a dream] eleven stars and the sun and the moon; I saw them prostrating to me." He said, "O my son, do not relate your vision to your brothers or they will contrive against you a plan. Indeed Satan, to man, is a manifest enemy. And thus will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of narratives [i.e., events or dreams] and complete His favor upon you and upon the family of Jacob, as He completed it upon your fathers before, Abraham and Isaac. Indeed, your Lord is Knowing and Wise." Certainly were there in Joseph and his brothers signs for those who ask, [such as]

Joseph (Yusuf) is an individual, and so are his parents, and brothers, each one an individual person. Joseph sees a dream that the objects in the sky (eleven planets/stars, sun, moon) are prostrating to Him. This dream is realised years later when indeed Joseph is in power in the Egypt (Misr), and his parents and brothers come to him.

In Surah alHajj, we read:

Surah alHajj (The Pilgrimage) 22:65-68

Do you not see that Allāh has subjected to you whatever is on the earth and the ships which run through the sea by His command? And He restrains the sky from falling upon the earth, unless by His permission. Indeed Allāh, to the people, is Kind and Merciful. And He is the one who gave you life; then He causes you to die and then will [again] give you life. Indeed, mankind is ungrateful. For every [religious] community We have appointed rites which they perform. So, [O Muḥammad], let them [i.e., the disbelievers] not contend with you over the matter but invite [them] to your Lord. Indeed, you are upon straight guidance. And if they dispute with you, then say, "Allāh is most knowing of what you do.

All angels were commanded to prostrate to Adam. All except Iblis prostrated.

Allah has subjected everything that is on Earth for humans.

Allah also restrains the sky from falling upon the Earth.

The Hajj is a rite announced by Abraham (Ibrahim alahisalam) and has been going on since then.

Among the rites is the circumambulation of the cube-shaped Kaaba.

Pilgrims circumambulate the Kaaba seven times.

Pilgrims circumambulate it in anti-clockwise direction.

...

As studied in a previous post, the Micro Shape of the Earth, the smallest geometrical shape a rock breaks into is a cube.

As we look into the sky, all humans can see sun, moon, planets, and stars move across the sky. Apparently, the sky seems to be going around the Earth.

We know that almost all objects in the sky are moving around something. That is they are in orbit, revolving around some other object. Many objects are also spinning around their own axis. Almost all of them rotate and revolve in anti-clockwise direction.

To quote from https://www.spaceacademy.net.au/library/notes/anticlok.htm [as on November 6, 2025]

THE ANTICLOCKWISE SOLAR SYSTEM

If we could stand outside the solar system and look down upon it from above the north pole of the Sun (or the Earth), we would see that nearly all the bodies in the solar system have motions that are anticlockwise.

The Sun rotates on its axis in an anticlockwise direction. The Earth also rotates on its axis in an anticlockwise direction. And the Earth revolves around the Sun in an anticlockwise direction. All the other major planets, and most of the minor planets (asteroids) also orbit the Sun in an anticlockwise direction. (A few comets orbit in the opposite, or clockwise, direction).

Most of the planets rotate about their own axes in an anticlockwise direction. This is called prograde rotation. Venus and Neptune are exceptions. Venus has a very slow clockwise rotation (termed retrograde), and Uranus, although it rotates every 15.5 hours, has its equator inclined at almost a right angle to its orbital plane. It is thus difficult to know whether to describe the rotation of Uranus as prograde with an equatorial inclination of 98o or retrograde with an inclination of 82o.

Allah has created humans to worship him, prostrating to Him alone.

While we must live on Earth in this dunya, Allah has appointed the Kaaba as a Qibla.

Allah states that the Kaaba is His House (Q2:125, Q20:26).

Everything on Earth and in the Sky prostates to and worships Allah:

Surah alHajj (The Pilgrimage) 22:18

Do you not see [i.e., know] that to Allāh prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth and the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the moving creatures and many of the people? But upon many the punishment has been justified. And he whom Allāh humiliates - for him there is no bestower of honor. Indeed, Allāh does what He wills.

— Saheeh International

The symbolism of the Hajj is certainly something to reflect upon.

Ta-Ha (20:53)

˹He is the One˺ Who has laid out the earth for ˹all of˺ you, and set in it pathways for you, and sends down rain from the sky, causing various types of plants to grow,

— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

(He is) the One who made the earth a cradle for you, and made in it pathways for you to move, and sent down water from the heavens; and We brought forth with it pairs of different vegetations :

— T. Usmani

[It is He] who has made for you the earth as a bed [spread out] and inserted therein for you roadways and sent down from the sky, rain and produced thereby categories of various plants.

— Fatah Muhammad Jalandhari

The word 'مَهْدًۭا' is used to describe how Allah has made or appointed (جَعَلَ) the Earth (ٱلْأَرْضَ) for us (لَكُمُ). Notice the for us (لَكُمُ): this makes it personal.

The root 'م ه د' occurs sixteen times in The Quran. Exploring the usage of the words in the various ayaat:

The Romans (30:44)

Those who reject Faith will suffer from that rejection: and those who work righteousness will spread their couch (of repose) for themselves (in heaven):

— A. Yusuf Ali

— Fatah Muhammad Jalandhari

Those who revert to the Deen of Allah, and do acts of reform are preparing, for their nafs, their resting place. So, it is again personal space.

...

The Cloaked One (74:14)

— T. Usmani

And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life].

With reference to context, regarding a particular 'kafir' individual, Allah is stating that He has made everything easy and within his power. This is the personal space/capacity/ability that Allah has given to this individual in this world (dunya).

The Cow (2:206)

When it is said to them, “Fear Allah,” pride carries them off to sin. Hell will be their proper place. What an evil place to rest!

— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

When it is said to him, “Fear Allah”, he is tempted by arrogance to (commit) sin. Hell is then enough for him, and it is indeed an evil bed to rest.

— T. Usmani

When it is said to him, "Fear Allah", He is led by arrogance to (more) crime. Enough for him is Hell;-An evil bed indeed (To lie on)!

— A. Yusuf Ali

Regarding a type of pilgrim who seeks to cause corruption, destroying crops and progeny (Q2:205), when he is reminded to fear Allah, his power (ٱلْعِزَّةُ) drives him to more sin. Such a person is preparing an evil place of rest for himself. This is referring to the individual resting place of this person in the hereafter (akhirah).

Family of Imran (3:12)

˹O Prophet!˺ Tell the disbelievers, “Soon you will be overpowered and driven to Hell—what an evil place to rest!”

— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

Say to those who disbelieve: “You shall soon be overcome and shall be gathered into Hell. Indeed, it is an evil bed (in which) to rest.”

— T. Usmani

The kafirs (rejectors /disbelievers) are being warned that they will be overcome. The example of Pharaoh and his family, and those before them, is presented in the previous ayat (Q3:11). They also belied the signs, and thus were caught out for their sins, and Allah is indeed severe in punishment. The disbelievers are being warned of the terrible place of rest they are preparing for themselves through their disbelief and rejection.  Again, the focus is on personal space of each kafir.

...

Family of Imran (3:196-197)

The strutting of the disbelievers about the land should not deceive you.

— T. Usmani

Be not deceived by the [uninhibited] movement of the disbelievers throughout the land.

— Saheeh International

— Tafheem e Qur'an - Syed Abu Ali Maududi

3:197

It is just a little enjoyment. After that, their resort is Hell; and it is an evil abode.

— T. Usmani

[It is but] a small enjoyment; then their [final] refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.

— Saheeh International

— Tafheem e Qur'an - Syed Abu Ali Maududi

Again, it is being explained that we should not be deceived by the movement of disbelieving people across lands (international travel), which essentially is a symbol of worldly business and prosperity. It is just a little enjoyment, but eventually they will be led to Hell, an evil final resting place. This world (dunya) of the prosperous disbelievers is in contrast to their hereafter (akhirah).

...

 The Heights (7:41)

Hell will be their resting place and their covering, layer upon layer- this is how We punish those who do evil.

— M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

For them there is Hell, as a couch (below) and folds and folds of covering above: such is Our requital of those who do wrong.

— A. Yusuf Ali

For the arrogant falsifiers, the gates of the sky will not be opened for a very long time; they will not be able to ascend to the sky, and their resting place/ bed/ couch and coverings will be in Hell; this is how those who put their nafs in darkness will be recompensed. Their personal space in the akhirah.

...

The Thunder (13:18)

For those who have responded to their Lord is the best [reward], but those who did not respond to Him - if they had all that is in the earth entirely and the like of it with it, they would [attempt to] ransom themselves thereby. Those will have the worst account, and their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.

— Saheeh International

There will be the best of rewards for those who respond to their Lord; those who do not respond would willingly give away the earth’s contents twice over, if they had it, in order to ransom themselves, so terrible will be their reckoning. Hell will be their home, and their bed wretched.

— M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

For those who respond to their Lord is a good recompense, a wonderful personal space.

Those who do not, they will face their terrible reckoning, and a terrible bed in Hell.

...

Similarly, Q38:56  جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَوْنَهَا فَبِئْسَ الْمِهَادُ resting place, place to dwell, bed

...

The Tidings (78:6)

Have We not made the earth a resting place?

— Saheeh International

 6. Have We not made the earth as a bed,

— Al-Hilali & Khan

— Fatah Muhammad Jalandhari

The Earth is a resting place, a bed, for each one of us. We live upon it, and we are buried in it. Each one in his or her own grave.

Notice that the usage of the word in all the ayaat quoted above consistently applies to each person individually. So, it is talking about the micro shape of the Earth. Exploring a few more ayaat:

Q3:46, Q5:110 and Q19:29 are mentioning Jesus' miraculous ability to speak from the 'الْمَهْدِ', translated as cradle.
Q20:53 has been quoted at the beginning of this post.
Q43:10 is also similarly worded: '
So, a cradle, or a bed, is a place of rest for a human being. Such a structure may be a cube, a cuboid, or an ovoid. Some shape with volume. Yet, it is one for each person. It can be comfortable, or it can be discomforting. Generally, graves are cuboid shaped. Similarly, beds and houses upon the Earth are also generally cuboid-shaped. Cradles may be a bit more ovoid in shape.

...

The Winnowing Winds (51:48)

And the earth was spread out by Us as a floor; so how well have We spread it out!

— T. Usmani

And We have spread out the (spacious) earth: How excellently We do spread out!

— A. Yusuf Ali

— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

Regarding the Earth in general, again we find the use of the same root. So, assuming it is again informing of the micro structure, what does modern research's finding is? To quote from University of Pennsylvania's website (emphasis mine):

In a new paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, a team from the University of PennsylvaniaBudapest University of Technology and Economics, and University of Debrecen uses math, geology, and physics to demonstrate that the average shape of rocks on Earth is a cube

The Implosion

..

[Al-Quran, Surah al-Qiyamah, Ayat 8]

Surah alQiyamah informs of an event commencing the Day of Qiyamah: it is the 'khasafa' of the Moon. Looking up the occurrence of this word in The Quran, we find it used in the following ayaat:

[Al-Quran, Surah al-Mulk, Ayat 16]

....

The triliteral root khā sīn fā (خ س ف) occurs eight times in the Quran as the form I verb khasafa (خَسَفَ):

(16:45:6) yakhsifaAllah will cave
(17:68:3) yakhsifaHe will cause to swallow
(28:81:1) fakhasafnāThen We caused to swallow upفَخَسَفْنَا بِهِ وَبِدَارِهِ الْأَرْضَ
(28:82:21) lakhasafaHe would have caused it to swallow usلَوْلَا أَنْ مَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا لَخَسَفَ بِنَا
(29:40:15) khasafnāWe caused to swallow
(34:9:14) nakhsifWe (could) cause to swallow themإِنْ نَشَأْ نَخْسِفْ بِهِمُ الْأَرْضَ
(67:16:6) yakhsifaHe will cause to swallow
(75:8:1) wakhasafaAnd becomes dark

As can be seen, seven out of eight times, the word is translated in terms of caving in / being swallowed by the Earth. The only instance where it is translated differently is in Q75:8 where the Day of Qiyamah is being described. For some reason, the translators have chosen to translate this in terms of darkening, like an eclipse. I've tried to understand this in terms of eclipse in an earlier post. However, the overarching meaning seems to be in terms of caving in, imploding, so that whatever is on top sinks in.

The Quran presents the example of Qarun* being sunk in the Earth along with all his wealth, and it mentions that some entire nations were punished as such. It also warns of such a punishment. There are modern-day examples of sinkholes. So, it is not something unthinkable.

The Moon is also expected to meet a similar fate. Another ayat that mentions something happening to the Moon is:

The Hour (of doom) has drawn near, and the moon has split asunder.

— T. Usmani

The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has been cleft asunder (the people of Makkah requested Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم to show them a miracle, so he showed them the splitting of the moon).1

— Al-Hilali & Khan

The people of Makkah asked the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم to show them a sign (miracle). So he showed them (the miracle) of the cleaving of the moon. (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.6, Hadîth No.390).

— Shaykh al-Hind Mahmud al-Hasan(with Tafsir E Usmani)

— Maulana Muhammad Junagarhi

— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

[Al-Quran, Surah al-Qamar, Ayat 1]

The sign that the Hour has approached is the cleaving of the Moon.

The sign that the Day of Qiyamah has approached is the implosion / darkening / eclipsing of the Moon.

* Qarun was from the Bani Israel, who lived during the time of Moses (Musa عليه السلام). While most of the Bani Israel were suffering, he lived a life of luxury and overwhelming wealth. He thought that the wealth he had accumulated was due to his knowledge. He was rebellious against his people. Eventually, he was punished for his crimes. His story is narrated in Surah al-Qasas starting at ayat 76.

The Mighty Corrupters of The Earth

 Surah al-Kahf

92.

Pickthall: Then he followed a road

93.

Pickthall: Till, when he came between the two mountains, he found upon their hither side a folk that scarce could understand a saying.

94.

Pickthall: They said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Lo! Gog and Magog are spoiling the land. So may we pay thee tribute on condition that thou set a barrier between us and them?

95.

Pickthall: He said: That wherein my Lord hath established me is better (than your tribute). Do but help me with strength (of men), I will set between you and them a bank.

96.

Pickthall: Give me pieces of iron - till, when he had levelled up (the gap) between the cliffs, he said: Blow! - till, when he had made it a fire, he said: Bring me molten copper to pour thereon.

97.

Pickthall: And (Gog and Magog) were not able to surmount, nor could they pierce (it).

98.

Pickthall: He said: This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord cometh to pass, He will lay it low, for the promise of my Lord is true.

99.

Pickthall: And on that day we shall let some of them surge against others, and the Trumpet will be blown. Then We shall gather them together in one gathering.

Surah al-Anbiya

21:95

And there is a ban upon any community which We have destroyed: that they shall not return.
— M. Pickthall

21:96

Until, when Gog and Magog are let loose, and they hasten out of every mound,
— M. Pickthall

The Quran informs us of a future event when the Earth-corrupting Gog Magog (Yajuj Majuj يَأْجُوجَ وَمَأْجُوجَ) will be let loose, and they will descend from every mound (مِّن كُلِّ حَدَبٍۢ يَنسِلُونَ). This event is supposed to occur during the end times, a little before the Promised Hour.

The Earth will once again be corrupted.

The Quran twice draws attention to the prior reformation of the Earth: Surah al-A'raf ayaat 56 and 85-86.

The Quran introduces corruption of the Earth in its first surah: Surah al-Baqarah ayaat 11-12, and 30. When Allah  informed the angels about appointing a Khalifa for the Earth, they were concerned that this Khalifa will cause corruption and shed blood. There are Hadith attributed to Prophet Muhammad  that the Yajuj Majuj are also descendants of Adam عليه السلام. The Yajuj Majuj outnumber other bani Adam by a factor of 999.

Gog Magog are mighty corrupters, and they have been contained by Dhu-al-Qarnayn, as a mercy by Allah. However, they will be released when the Promised Hour approaches, and they will once again corrupt the Earth.

Surah al-A'raf, ... the narratives

...

Surah al-A'raf begins with the general mention about prospering communities disbelieving, and eventually meeting their fate. When the punishment comes to them, they admit that they themselves were the zalimeen.

Then it goes on to narrate some specific events:

Adam & Iblis (Q7:11-27

The first narration begins with the creation of humans, giving them shape and form, and then the command to the angels to prostrate to Adam. They all prostrated except Iblis. He refused to obey the command of Allah. His arrogance is based on the material he has been created with. He believes the 'naar' he has been created with is better than 'teen' that Adam has been created with. For his arrogance, he gets expelled, degraded. He prays for reprieve until the Day of Resurrection. His prayer is granted. He blames Allah for the legal error he made, and states that he will surely sit on Allah's Straight Path in wait for humans, to hinder them from before, behind, right and left, and that most them won't be grateful. He is commanded to depart, reproached and expelled, and that whoever follows him, hell will be filled with them all.

Adam and his wife were told to dwell (uskun) in the Garden, eat from whatever you will, but forbidden from even going near this tree, lest you become of those in the darkness (zalimeen).

Shaitan whispered to them, to make apparent to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts. He said that their Lord had not forbidden this tree except that they become angels or become immortals.

He promised solemnly to them both, that he was to them both, from their sincere advisors.

— Samiya Illias

So, he misled them both through deception. So, when they both tasted from the tree, their hidden parts became manifest, and they began to cover / attach upon themselves the leaves of the Garden. And their Lord called out to them, 'didn't I forbid you from this tree? and tell you that Shaitan is your clear enemy?'

They said, "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers."

— Saheeh International

They said: "Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers."

— Al-Hilali & Khan

They said: 'Our Rabb (Lord-Sustainer), we have put our nafs in darkness (zlm), and if You do not cover us and if You do not have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers'.

Samiya Illias

They were commanded to descend from there (The Garden) as enemies to each other, and that upon the Earth will be your place of dwelling and your means of livelihood for a time. There you will live, there you will die, and from there you will be resurrected.

The next two ayaat inform Bani Adam that libas (clothing) has been bestowed upon them to hide their shame, and as an adornment. The libas-e-taqwa (their original natural clothing, which they lost by not keeping their duty to Allah) was better. That this is from the Signs of Allah, perhaps you will remember. The Bani Adam are warned to not to let Shaitan (Satan) put you in trial as he put your parents in trial, getting them expelled from The Garden, stripping off their libas (clothing) from them, to expose their concealed parts. Indeed, he (Satan) and his tribe watches you from where you cannot see them. Indeed, We have made the shayateen (satans) the allies of those who do not believe.

DRAFT

Q7:53

Common Theme

Certainly Noah, Hud, Saleh, Lot, Shoaib, and Moses were sent to their people. Each called upon them to keep their taqwa (duty to Allah). The ruling class / chieftains / leaders (الۡمَلَاُ) of the nation rejected the message. Most of the people followed their leaders and adhered to their false religion. Very few hearkened to the Messenger of Allah. Eventually, they were punished for their crimes.

Messenger Noah  & His People (Q7:59-64)

Certainly, We sent Noah to his people. He said, O my people, worship Allah, you have no other deity except him. I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous day. But the leaders of his people said, we surely see that you are surely misguided. He said, O my people, there is no misguidance in me, but I am a Messenger from the Lord of the Worlds. I convey to you the messages of my Lord, and I advise you, and I know from Allah what you do not know. Do you wonder that there has come to you reminder from your Lord, upon a man from among you, that he may warn you, and that you may keep your taqwa (duty to Allah), so you might receive mercy? But they rejected him, so We saved him and those with him, in a ship, and We drowned those who denied Our signs, indeed, they were a people blind.

Messenger Hud  & The Aad (Q7:65-72)

And to the Aad, We sent their brother Hud. He said, O my people, worship Allah, you have no other god but Him. Then, will you not keep your taqwa (duty towards Allah)? Said the leaders who disbelieved from his people, Indeed we see you in foolishness, and indeed we think you are of the liars. He said, O my people, there is no foolishness in me, but I am a Messenger from the Lord of the Worlds. I convey to you the messages of my Lord, and I am to you a trustworthy advisor. Do you wonder that there has come to you reminder from your Lord, upon a man from among you, that he may warn you, and remember He made you successors (khulafaa) after the people of Noah, and increased you in stature extensively. So, remember the favours of Allah, that you may succeed. They said, have you come to us so that we worship Allah alone, and leave what our fathers worshipped? Then bring to us what you promise, if you are truthful. He said, already has fallen upon you, from your Lord, impurity and anger. Do you dispute with me regarding the names you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority? Then wait, indeed, I am with you among those who wait. So, We saved him and those with him, through Our mercy, and cut the root of those who denied Our signs, and they were not believers.

Messenger Saleh  & The Thamud (Q7:73-79)

And to the Thamud, their brother Saleh. He said, O my people, worship Allah, you have no other god but Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord: this is Allah's she-camel (naqatu-Allah), as a sign for you. So let her freely eat from Allah's land, and do not touch her with harm, lest seizes you a painful  punishment. And remember when He made you successors (khulafaa) after the Aad, and gave you  station in the Earth. And you choose palaces in the plains, and hew homes for yourselves in the mountains. So, remember the favours of Allah, and do not commit evil in the Earth, as corrupters. Said the leaders who were arrogant among their people to those who were weak who had believed among them, 'do you actually know that Saleh has been sent from your Lord?' they replied, 'indeed we, in that which he has been sent with, are believers'. Said those who were arrogant, 'indeed we, in that which you believe, are disbelievers'. So, they made barren (aqaru) the she-camel (naqata), defying the command of their Lord, and said, O Saleh, bring us what you promise us, if you are indeed from those sent. So, seized them the earthquake, so they became in their homes, fallen prone. So he turned away from them saying, O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the message of my Lord, and advised you, but you do not love the advisors.

Messenger Lot  & his people (Q7:80-84)

And Lot, when said he to his people, 'do you commit such immorality (al-fahisha) that has preceded you with it no one in the worlds (al-aalameen)? you lust after men instead of women, you are indeed abusers (musrifoon).' And not responded his people except they said, 'expel them from your land, they are a people who remain pure'. So, we saved him and his family, except his woman, she was of those who got covered in or became dust (al-ghabireen), and We rained upon them a rain (or stones). So see what was the end of the criminals.

Messenger Shoaib  & his people (Q7:85-93)

And to the Madyan, We sent their brother Shoaib. He said, O my people, worship Allah, you have no other god but Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. So give just measure (فَاَوۡفُوا الۡكَيۡلَ) and weight (وَالۡمِيۡزَانَ), and do not deprive people of their things (النَّاسَ اَشۡيَآءَهُمۡ), and do not spread corruption (تُفۡسِدُوۡا) in the Earth after it has been reformed (بَعۡدَ اِصۡلَاحِهَا), that is better for you, if you should be believers. And do not sit on every path (صِرَاطٍ), threatening and hindering from Allah's Way (سَبِيۡلِ اللّٰهِ), those who believe in Him, seeking to make it seem deviant. And remember when you were few, and He increased you. And see how was the end of the corrupters (عَاقِبَةُ الۡمُفۡسِدِيۡنَ‏).

And if a group of you believes in what I am sent with, and a group does not believe, have patience till Allah judges between us, and He is the Best to decide

Said the leaders who were arrogant from his people, Certainly we will expel you, O Shoaib, and those with have believed, with you, from our town, or certainly you must return to our religious persuasion (مِلَّتِنَا). He said, Even if we are unwilling? We would certainly be fabricating a lie Upon Allah if we return to your religious persuasion after Allah has saved us from it, and not it is for us to return to it unless if Wills Allah, He is our Lord, encompasses our Lord everything in His Knowledge, Upon Allah we put our trust, our Lord decide between us and our people with right (بِالۡحَـقِّ), and You are the Best to decide (خَيۡرُ الۡفٰتِحِيۡنَ‏).

Said the leaders who disbelieved from his people, If you follow Shoaib, you will surely be losers.

So, seized them the earthquake, so they became in their homes, fallen prone. Those who had falsified Shoaib were wiped out as if they had never flourished there, those who had falsified Shoaib, they were the losers.

So he turned away from them, and said, O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the messages of my Lord, and advised you, so how can I grieve for a disbelieving people.

...

Messenger Moses, the Pharaoh  & his chiefs (Q7:103-136)

Then, after them, We resurrected/ raised/ appointed/ sent (بَعَثۡنَا) Moses with Our Signs, towards Pharaoh and his religious rulers/ leaders (مَلَا۟ئِهٖ), but they dealt with Our Signs unjustly/ darkly (فَظَلَمُوۡا بِهَا), so look how was the end/ penalty/ fate (عَاقِبَةُ) of the corrupters (الۡمُفۡسِدِيۡنَ‏).

And Moses said, O Pharaoh, indeed I am a Messenger from the Lord-Sustainer of all the worlds. Obligated to say nothing about Allah except the truth, I have brought to you with clear evidence from your Lord-Sustainer, so send with me Bani Israel.

He said, if you have brought a sign, then bring it forth, if you are of those who speak the truth.

So, he threw his staff, and it became a serpent, evident.

And he drew out his hand, so it was white for all to see.

Said the chiefs of the people of Pharaoh, indeed this is a magician/ sorcerer, learned/ knowledgable.

Who seeks to evict you from your land. So what do you instruct?

They said, postpone/ delay him and his brother, and send in all the cities, gatherers

To bring you every magician/ sorcerer, learned/ knowledgable.

And came all the magicians/ sorcerers to Pharaoh, they said, indeed for us a reward if we overcome?

He replied, Yes, and certainly you will be among those closest to me.

They asked, O Moses, either you throw, or shall we be the first throwers?

He said, throw. So when they threw, they enchanted the eyes of the people, and struck them with awe, and brought a magic (spell), mighty

Then We inspired Moses that throw your staff, so it it devoured that which they were faking.

So was established reality, and vanished what they were doing.

So they were overcome there, and returned degraded.

And threw themselves down the magicians/ sorcerers, in prostration

They said, we believe in the Lord-Sustainer of the worlds

Lord-Sustainer of Moses and Aaron

Said Pharaoh, you believed in Him before I gave you permission! this is a plan which you have planned in the city, to evict those who live in it, so soon you will know.

Certainly I will cut-off your hands and feet, from opposite sides, then I will crucify you all.

They said, Surely to our Lord-Sustainer we will return

and not you take vengeance on us except that we have believed in the signs of our Lord-Sustainer when they came to us, Our Lord-Sustainer, pour upon us patience, and cause us to die Muslims.

The Watery Realm & The Appearance of Dry Land

 ...

The Beginning

1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

The First Day: Light

3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

The Second Day: Firmament

6And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. 7And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. 8And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

The Third Day: Dry Ground

9And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. 10And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. ...

[The Bible, Genesis 1 1-10, Translation: KJV]

The Torah (The Old Testament) begins with the Creation story. It describes the darkness upon the face (وَجْهِ) of the deep (الْغَمْرِ), the watery realm, the illumination, naming it the Day (نَهَارا), and naming the darkness Night (لَيْلا); the beginning of Evening (مَسَاءٌ) and Morning (صَبَاحٌ), the first Day (يَوْما وَاحِدا). Then, the separation of the waters into sky and ocean, the appearance of the dry land, ...

The Exodus, the parting of the sea to make dry land appear, is one of the most wondrous events in The Torah. This was an event that was witnessed and experienced by all the Bani Israel who crossed it along with Moses (Musa عليه السلام), and also witnessed and experienced by the Pharaoh and his forces who were drowned in the same sea when the walls of water came crashing down upon them.

Another famous water story common to all world mythologies is the Deluge or Flood. The Torah and The Quran also endorse it. It is when Allah ﷻ opened the waters of the sky to fall upon Earth, the waters of the sky and earth met, and submerged all who disbelieved Noah (Nuh عليه السلام).

Surah Fatir (Separator) states:

Verily! Allâh grasps the heavens and the earth lest they should move away from their places, and if they were to move away from their places, there is not one that could grasp them after Him. Truly, He is Ever Most Forbearing, Oft-Forgiving.

[Al-Quran 35:41, Translator: Al-Hilali & Khan]

The Quran, Surah an-Naziat, draws attention towards the creation of the sky:

Which is harder to create: you people or the sky that He built,

raising it high and perfecting it,

giving darkness to its night and bringing out its morning brightness,

and the earth, too, He spread out,

[Al-Quran 79:27-30; Translation: M.A.S. Abdel Haleem]

In the beginning, there was darkness even on the surface of water. Allah عزوجل granted light to illuminate the surface of the water. He also created the sun, moon, and stars, on the fourth day, to illuminate it further. So, day and night, there is some form of illumination on the surface of the Earth's waters. However, the deeper one goes, the darker it gets. The oceans of the Earth have various levels of illumination, till it gets so dark that one can hardly see his stretched out hand. And the ocean is much deeper than that.

Or ˹their deeds are˺ like the darkness in a deep sea, covered by waves upon waves, topped by ˹dark˺ clouds. Darkness upon darkness! If one stretches out their hand, they can hardly see it. And whoever Allah does not bless with light will have no light!

— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

Or [they are] like darknesses within an unfathomable sea which is covered by waves, upon which are waves, over which are clouds - darknesses, some of them upon others. When one puts out his hand [therein], he can hardly see it. And he to whom Allāh has not granted light - for him there is no light.

— Saheeh International

Or (their deeds) are like layers of darkness in a vast deep sea overwhelmed by a wave, above which there is another wave, above which there are clouds - layers of darkness, one above the other. When one puts forth his hand, he can hardly see it; and the one to whom Allah does not give light can have no light at all.

— T. Usmani

Or as darkness on a vast, abysmal sea. There covereth him a wave, above which is a wave, above which is a cloud. Layer upon layer of darkness. When he holdeth out his hand he scarce can see it. And he for whom Allah hath not appointed light, for him there is no light.

— M. Pickthall

Or (the Unbelievers' state) is like the depths of darkness in a vast deep ocean, overwhelmed with billow topped by billow, topped by (dark) clouds: depths of darkness, one above another: if a man stretches out his hands, he can hardly see it! for any to whom Allah giveth not light, there is no light!

— A. Yusuf Ali

Or [the state of a disbeliever] is like the darkness in a vast deep sea, overwhelmed with waves topped by waves, topped by dark clouds, (layers of) darkness upon darkness: if a man stretches out his hand, he can hardly see it! And he for whom Allâh has not appointed light, for him there is no light.
