Taqwa

الٓمٓ ١

Alif. Lām. Mīm.

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ لَا رَيْبَ ۛ فِيهِ ۛ هُدًۭى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ ٢

ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ ٣

وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ وَبِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ هُمْ يُوقِنُونَ ٤

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ عَلَىٰ هُدًۭى مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ ٥

2:1 Alif, Lam, Mim. (These are the names of three letters from the Arabic alphabet, probably indicating that this inimitable Revelation, the Qur'an, is made of this Arabic alphabet. Only Allah Knows their meaning here)

2:2 That is the Book, there is no suspicion about it, a guidance to the pious

2:3 Who believe in the Unseen, and keep up the prayer, and expend of what We have provided them

2:4 And who believe in what has been sent down to you, and what has been sent down (even) before you, and they constantly have certitude in the Hereafter

2:5 Those are upon guidance from their, and those are they who are the prosperers

The triliteral root wāw qāf yā (و ق ي) occurs 258 times in The Quran in eight derived forms. Mostly, the derived forms are translated as fear, consciousness, righteousness, ... except in three derived forms where it is clear that it is a form of protection, a defence, a shield:

So, a muttaqi is one who is earnestly seeking the protection of Allah عزوجل , and therefore keeping his/her duty towards Allah عزوجل , as per the guidance provided in the scriptures He has revealed through His Prophets and Messengers.

It is not for a bashr to speak with Allah except from behind a veil (Q42:51).

The Quran mentions that Adam hid himself from Allah عزوجل , after he lost his clothing. It goes on to state that even though clothing has been provided to the sons of Adam عليه السلام, yet the Libas-e-Taqwa was the best, and that it is from the Signs of Allah (وَلِبَاسُ التَّقۡوٰى ۙ ذٰ لِكَ خَيۡرٌ ؕ ذٰ لِكَ مِنۡ اٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَذَّكَّرُوۡنَ‏ ... Q7:26).

When Moses (Musa عليه السلام) requested to see Allah ﷻ , he was told that you certainly cannot see Me, and when Allah ﷻ revealed His Glory to the mountain, the mountain disintegrated, and Moses (Musa عليه السلام) fell unconscious (... قَالَ رَبِّ اَرِنِىۡۤ اَنۡظُرۡ اِلَيۡكَ ؕ قَالَ لَنۡ تَرٰٮنِىۡ وَلٰـكِنِ انْظُرۡ اِلَى الۡجَـبَلِ فَاِنِ اسۡتَقَرَّ مَكَانَهٗ فَسَوۡفَ تَرٰٮنِىۡ ۚ فَلَمَّا تَجَلّٰى رَبُّهٗ لِلۡجَبَلِ جَعَلَهٗ دَكًّا وَّخَرَّ مُوۡسٰى صَعِقًا ۚ ... Q7:143).

Allah ﷻ is the Noor of the skies and earth. Noor is probably the highest kind of electromagnetic radiation, as discussed in another post. There are all sorts of electromagnetic radiations, and various intensities of energy.

Fire emits radiation, but itself it is a thermal energy, a plasma of sub atomic particles at very high energies. Fire burns. The Quran repeatedly warns of The Fires of Hereafter, and invites people to become pious, if they wish to be saved from endlessly burning in The Fire.

Surah an-Nahl (The Honey Bee) presents the example of protective clothing:

وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّمَّا خَلَقَ ظِلَـٰلًۭا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ أَكْنَـٰنًۭا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ سَرَٰبِيلَ تَقِيكُمُ ٱلْحَرَّ وَسَرَٰبِيلَ تَقِيكُم بَأْسَكُمْ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُتِمُّ نِعْمَتَهُۥ عَلَيْكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُسْلِمُونَ ٨١

And Allah has provided you shade out of what He created, and has given you shelter in the mountains. He has also provided you with clothes protecting you from the heat ˹and cold˺, and armour shielding you in battle. This is how He perfects His favour upon you, so perhaps you will ˹fully˺ submit ˹to Him˺.

And Allāh has made for you, from that which He has created, shadows [i.e., shade] and has made for you from the mountains, shelters and has made for you garments which protect you from the heat and garments [i.e., coats of mail] which protect you from your [enemy in] battle. Thus does He complete His favor upon you that you might submit [to Him].

In the Space Age, we are familiar with the protective suits worn by astronauts to protect them from radiation-exposure. Closer to home, fire fighters wear fire-resistant clothing. Ideally, we want to be protected from exposure.

The Quran is an early-warning system. It warns us of an endless, painful, debilitating penalty prepared for the criminals. It repeatedly emphasises the need for Taqwa of Allah عزوجل , whose protection is the only protection that will be available on the Day of Judgement.

Those who are held back for their crimes will have to endure the Fires of Hell (contained within Earth, as discussed in another post), and those who are allowed to ascend towards the Gardens of Eternity will need their protective natural clothing, shielding them from harmful radiations, so that they are safe and no longer in danger.

We need to become pious.

Gamma Rays, Visible Light & The Electromagnetic Spectrum

قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ

اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ

لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ

وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ

Say, "He (is) Allah, the One.

Allah, the Eternal, the Absolute.

Not He begets and not He is begotten.

And not is for Him equivalent any [one]."

[Al-Quran 112]

Abstract

Exploring the erased sign of the night according to the ayaat of The Quran and recent scientific discoveries.

Full Text

وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ آيَتَيْنِ فَمَحَوْنَا آيَةَ اللَّيْلِ وَجَعَلْنَا آيَةَ النَّهَارِ مُبْصِرَةً لِّتَبْتَغُوا فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَلِتَعْلَمُوا عَدَدَ السِّنِينَ وَالْحِسَابَ وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ فَصَّلْنَاهُ تَفْصِيلًا

And We have made the night and the day (as) two signs. Then We erased (the) sign (of) the night, and We made (the) sign (of) the day visible, that you may seek bounty from your Lord, and that you may know (the) number (of) the years, and the account. And every thing - We have explained it (in) detail.

[Al-Quran 17:12]

The alternation of the day and night make it easy to keep count of passing time. The Sun and the Moon are used to calculate time of the day, number of months and the years. A variety of calculation systems have been employed over the ages, yet they all are based on the Sun and/or the Moon.

In Surah Fussilat (Explained in Detail), it is stated:

وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ اللَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ وَالشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ لَا تَسْجُدُوا لِلشَّمْسِ وَلَا لِلْقَمَرِ وَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ الَّذِي خَلَقَهُنَّ إِن كُنتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ

And of His Signs (are) the night and the day and the sun and the moon. (Do) not prostrate to the sun and not to the moon, but prostrate to Allah the One Who created them, if you, Him alone, worship.
[Al-Quran 41:37]

The sun and the moon have been deified in many mythologies and worshipped by many people. In Surah Yunus, the reason given for the sign of the night and the day and their signs, in Q17:12, is again repeated, mentioning the sun and moon explicitly in this ayat, while reiterating the fact that Allah ﷻ created them:

هُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ الشَّمْسَ ضِيَاءً وَالْقَمَرَ نُورًا وَقَدَّرَهُ مَنَازِلَ لِتَعْلَمُوا عَدَدَ السِّنِينَ وَالْحِسَابَ مَا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ ذَٰلِكَ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ يُفَصِّلُ الْآيَاتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ

He (is) the One Who made the sun a ضِيَاءً, and the moon a نُورًا and determined for it phases, that you may know (the) number (of) the years and the count (of time). Not created Allah that except in truth. He explains the Signs for a people (who) know.

The moon is described as a nur (نُورًا), and Surah anNur informs us that Allah ﷻ is نُورُ of the السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ:

اللَّهُ نُورُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ مَثَلُ نُورِهِ كَمِشْكَاةٍ فِيهَا مِصْبَاحٌ الْمِصْبَاحُ فِي زُجَاجَةٍ الزُّجَاجَةُ كَأَنَّهَا كَوْكَبٌ دُرِّيٌّ يُوقَدُ مِن شَجَرَةٍ مُّبَارَكَةٍ زَيْتُونَةٍ لَّا شَرْقِيَّةٍ وَلَا غَرْبِيَّةٍ يَكَادُ زَيْتُهَا يُضِيءُ وَلَوْ لَمْ تَمْسَسْهُ نَارٌ نُّورٌ عَلَىٰ نُورٍ يَهْدِي اللَّهُ لِنُورِهِ مَن يَشَاءُ وَيَضْرِبُ اللَّهُ الْأَمْثَالَ لِلنَّاسِ وَاللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ

Allah (is the) نُورُ (of) the heavens and the earth. (The) example (of) His نُورِ (is) like a niche in it (is) a lamp; the lamp (is) in a glass, the glass as if it were a planet brilliant (which) is lit from a tree blessed - an olive, not (of the) east and not (of the) west, would almost its oil glow, even if not touched it fire. نُّورٌ upon نُورٍ. Allah guides to His نُورِ whom He wills. And Allah sets forth the examples for the mankind. And Allah of every thing (is) All-Knower.

In Surah arRa`d, we read:

هُوَ الَّذِي يُرِيكُمُ الْبَرْقَ خَوْفًا وَطَمَعًا وَيُنشِئُ السَّحَابَ الثِّقَالَ
وَيُسَبِّحُ الرَّعْدُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ مِنْ خِيفَتِهِ وَيُرْسِلُ الصَّوَاعِقَ فَيُصِيبُ بِهَا مَن يَشَاءُ وَهُمْ يُجَادِلُونَ فِي اللَّهِ وَهُوَ شَدِيدُ الْمِحَالِ

He (is) the One Who shows you the lightning, a fear and a hope and brings up the heavy clouds.
And glorifies the thunder [with] and the Angels for fear of Him. And He sends the thunderbolts and strikes with it whom He wills, yet they dispute about Allah. And He (is) Mighty (in) Strength.
[Al-Quran 13:12-13]

When Moses (Musa عليه السلام) desired to see Allah ﷻ :

وَلَمَّا جَاءَ مُوسَىٰ لِمِيقَاتِنَا وَكَلَّمَهُ رَبُّهُ قَالَ رَبِّ أَرِنِي أَنظُرْ إِلَيْكَ قَالَ لَن تَرَانِي وَلَٰكِنِ انظُرْ إِلَى الْجَبَلِ فَإِنِ اسْتَقَرَّ مَكَانَهُ فَسَوْفَ تَرَانِي فَلَمَّا تَجَلَّىٰ رَبُّهُ لِلْجَبَلِ جَعَلَهُ دَكًّا وَخَرَّ مُوسَىٰ صَعِقًا فَلَمَّا أَفَاقَ قَالَ سُبْحَانَكَ تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

And when Musa came to Our appointed place and spoke to him his Lord, he said, "O my Lord! Show me (that) I may look at You." He said, "Never you (can) see Me, but look at the mountain [then] if it remains in its place then you will see Me." But when revealed (His) Glory his Lord to the mountain, He made it crumbled to dust and Musa fell down unconscious. And when he recovered he said, "Glory be to You! I turn (in repentance) to you, and I am (the) first (of) the believers."
[Al-Quran 7:143]

When the Bani Israel demanded to see Allah ﷻ :

وَإِذْ قُلْتُمْ يَا مُوسَىٰ لَن نُّؤْمِنَ لَكَ حَتَّىٰ نَرَى اللَّهَ جَهْرَةً فَأَخَذَتْكُمُ الصَّاعِقَةُ وَأَنتُمْ تَنظُرُونَ
ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَاكُم مِّن بَعْدِ مَوْتِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ

And when you said, "O Musa! Never (will) we believe in you until we see Allah manifestly." So seized you the thunderbolt while you (were) looking.
Then We revived you from after your death, so that you may (be) grateful.
[Al-Quran 2:55-56]

The Day when Allah ﷻ comes:

هَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَأْتِيَهُمُ اللَّهُ فِي ظُلَلٍ مِّنَ الْغَمَامِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ وَقُضِيَ الْأَمْرُ وَإِلَى اللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ الْأُمُورُ

Are they waiting [except] that comes to them Allah in (the) shadows of [the] clouds, and the Angels, and is decreed the matter? And to Allah return (all) the matters.
[Al-Quran 2:210]

On the Day of Judgement:

وَأَشْرَقَتِ الْأَرْضُ بِنُورِ رَبِّهَا وَوُضِعَ الْكِتَابُ وَجِيءَ بِالنَّبِيِّينَ وَالشُّهَدَاءِ وَقُضِيَ بَيْنَهُم بِالْحَقِّ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ

And (will) shine the earth with (the) نُورِ (of) its Lord and (will) be placed the Record and (will) be brought the Prophets and the witnesses, and it (will) be judged between them in truth, and they will not be wronged.

Putting together the knowledge provided in the eleven ayaat quoted above with what science has so far discovered:

ضِيَاءً

The Quran uses this root six times, and is variously understood as light that shines, illuminates, flashes or glows. The sun, when above the horizon, is the brightest object in the sky. It emits the visible light humans use to see, as well as other shorter and longer wavelengths of light. The visible light is a very narrow band of the electromagnetic spectrum.

نُورًا

The Quran uses the word نُور several times, and is variously translated as light which is reflected, lustrous, beautiful, enlightening. The root of this word is shared by the word نَارًا which means fire. We know that fire is produced in a process where heat energy is also generated along with the light.

The moon is visible to humans, most nights of the month, through the sunlight it reflects. It waxes and wanes, and the phases of the moon are used by many calendar systems.

A full moon is the brightest object in the night sky. The Quran also informs us that Allah ﷻ has made the moon a nur (جَعَلَ ... الْقَمَرَ نُورًا). However, Q17:12 informs us that the sign of the night has been erased or blotted out, that is made invisible to us. As mentioned above, the visible light is only a narrow band of the electromagnetic spectrum. When the moon is viewed in other wavelengths, it is a wonderful spectacle. Especially, in gamma rays of greater than 20 MeV, the moon is the brightest object in the sky, outshining everything else, while the sun cannot usually be even seen at these energies:

The Moon is not the only source of high energy gamma ray emissions. There are other regions of the earth and sky emitting gamma rays as well. An intense celestial Gamma Ray Burst from within our own galaxy has also been recorded a day after the Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004...

Terrestrial gamma ray flashes have energies up to 20 MeV (million electron volts). Gamma Rays are also known to be emitted by lightning discharges, in the range of 10-20 MeV. It has been estimated that several hundred terrestrial gamma ray flashes occur daily.

Gamma Ray Bursts are flashes of gamma rays. They are the most energetic and most luminous form of light in the Universe. Very-high energy gamma radiation, having photon energies from 100GeV to 100 TeV have been detected in emissions from astronomical sources. Scientists theorise the existence of Ultra-high energy gamma rays with photon energies higher than 100 TeV, however these have not been detected yet.

Moreover, there is a diffuse Cosmic Gamma Ray Background Radiation all around, such that, it is said that if we had gamma vision, there would be no dark place anywhere. The source of this radiation remains unidentified.

The Electromagnetic Spectrum

فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ

وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ

إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ

But nay! I swear by what you see,

And what not you see,

Indeed, it (is) surely (the) Word (of) a Messenger noble.

[Al-Quran 69:38-40]

The Quran is indeed a message from the Almighty Allah ﷻ , who has sent His messengers with guidance. Gamma rays occupy the shortest wavelength, and thus the highest photon energy, in the Electromagnetic Spectrum. We humans can see a very narrow band of the Electromagnetic Spectrum, which is the Visible Light:

And then, we know nothing yet about the dark energy and dark matter, which scientists believe constitutes most of our Universe.

اللَّهُ خَالِقُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَكِيلٌ
Allah (is the) Creator (of) all things, and He (is) over all things a Guardian.

لَّهُ مَقَالِيدُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ
For Him (are the) keys (of) the heavens and the earth. And those who disbelieve in (the) Verses (of) Allah, those - they (are) the losers.

قُلْ أَفَغَيْرَ اللَّهِ تَأْمُرُونِّي أَعْبُدُ أَيُّهَا الْجَاهِلُونَ
Say, "Is (it) other than Allah you order me (to) worship, O ignorant ones?"

وَلَقَدْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ وَإِلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكَ لَئِنْ أَشْرَكْتَ لَيَحْبَطَنَّ عَمَلُكَ وَلَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ
And verily, it has been revealed to you and to those who (were) before you, if you associate (with Allah) surely, will become worthless your deeds and you will surely be among the losers.

بَلِ اللَّهَ فَاعْبُدْ وَكُن مِّنَ الشَّاكِرِينَ
Nay! But worship Allah and be among the thankful ones.

وَمَا قَدَرُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِ وَالْأَرْضُ جَمِيعًا قَبْضَتُهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَالسَّمَاوَاتُ مَطْوِيَّاتٌ بِيَمِينِهِ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ

And not they appraised Allah (with) true appraisal, while the earth entirely (will be) in His Grip (on the) Day (of) the Resurrection, and the heavens (will be) folded in His Right Hand. Glory be to Him! And High is He above what they associate (with Him).

وَنُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ فَصَعِقَ مَن فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَن فِي الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا مَن شَاءَ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ نُفِخَ فِيهِ أُخْرَىٰ فَإِذَا هُمْ قِيَامٌ يَنظُرُونَ
And (will) be blown [in] the trumpet, then (will) fall dead whoever (is) in the heavens and whoever (is) on the earth except whom Allah wills. Then (it will) be blown [in it] a second time, and behold! They (will be) standing waiting.

وَأَشْرَقَتِ الْأَرْضُ بِنُورِ رَبِّهَا وَوُضِعَ الْكِتَابُ وَجِيءَ بِالنَّبِيِّينَ وَالشُّهَدَاءِ وَقُضِيَ بَيْنَهُم بِالْحَقِّ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ
And (will) shine the earth with (the) light نُورِ (of) its Lord and (will) be placed the Record and (will) be brought the Prophets and the witnesses, and it (will) be judged between them in truth, and they will not be wronged.

وَوُفِّيَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا عَمِلَتْ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَفْعَلُونَ
And (will) be paid in full every soul what it did; and He (is the) Best-Knower of what they do.

وَسِيقَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ زُمَرًا حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَاءُوهَا فُتِحَتْ أَبْوَابُهَا وَقَالَ لَهُمْ خَزَنَتُهَا أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ رُسُلٌ مِّنكُمْ يَتْلُونَ عَلَيْكُمْ آيَاتِ رَبِّكُمْ وَيُنذِرُونَكُمْ لِقَاءَ يَوْمِكُمْ هَٰذَا قَالُوا بَلَىٰ وَلَٰكِنْ حَقَّتْ كَلِمَةُ الْعَذَابِ عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ
And (will) be driven those who disbelieve to Hell (in) groups until when they reach it, (will) be opened its gates and (will) say to them its keepers, "Did not come to you Messengers from you reciting to you (the) Verses (of) your Lord and warning you (of the) meeting (of) your Day this?" They (will) say, "Yes!" But has been justified (the) word (of) punishment against the disbelievers.

قِيلَ ادْخُلُوا أَبْوَابَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا فَبِئْسَ مَثْوَى الْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ
It will be said, "Enter (the) gates (of) Hell (to) abide eternally therein, and wretched is (the) abode (of) the arrogant."

وَسِيقَ الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا رَبَّهُمْ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ زُمَرًا حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَاءُوهَا وَفُتِحَتْ أَبْوَابُهَا وَقَالَ لَهُمْ خَزَنَتُهَا سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكُمْ طِبْتُمْ فَادْخُلُوهَا خَالِدِينَ
And (will) be driven those who feared their Lord, to Paradise (in) groups until when they reach it and (will) be opened its gates and (will) say to them its keepers, "Peace be upon you, you have done well, so enter it (to) abide eternally."

وَقَالُوا الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي صَدَقَنَا وَعْدَهُ وَأَوْرَثَنَا الْأَرْضَ نَتَبَوَّأُ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ حَيْثُ نَشَاءُ فَنِعْمَ أَجْرُ الْعَامِلِينَ

When the Seas are set on Fire

وَإِذَا الْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ

Sahih International: And when the seas are filled with flame

Shakir: And when the seas are set on fire,

Mohsin Khan: And when the seas shall become as blazing Fire or shall overflow;

The Quran is a message of glad tidings and warnings. The promised future events will occur. We must believe, heed to the message and seek Allah's forgiveness, so that we are granted a safe passage out of all the chaos, on a straight trajectory, headed towards the Gardens of Eternity. Surah at-Takwir begins with a list of future events, and concludes as follows:

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَالَمِينَ

لِمَن شَاءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَسْتَقِيمَ

وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Not it (is) except a reminder to the worlds,

For whoever wills among you to take a straight way.

And not you will except that wills Allah, Lord (of) the worlds.

Burning Water

An accidental discovery in 2007 demonstrated that salt water can indeed burn in a radio frequency field. However, for water to burn, massive input of energy is required to initiate and sustain the burning process.

Cosmic Radiation
As studied in Smoke from the Sky, another end-of-the-times event is cosmic smoke: an initial engulfing cosmic smoke, followed by the greatest seizure (Q44:10-16). Cosmic radiation consists of particles of mass, and can achieve tremendous energies. In July 2018, it has been reported that superstar Eta Carinae is shooting cosmic rays.

Massive cosmic rays compared to photons
In current usage, the term cosmic ray almost exclusively refers to massive particles - those that have rest mass - as opposed to photons which have no rest mass. Massive particles have additional, kinetic, mass-energy when they are moving, due to relativistic effects. Through this process, some particles acquire tremendously high mass-energies. These are significantly higher than the photon energy of even the highest-energy photons detected to date. The energy of the massless photon depends solely on frequency, not speed, as photons always travel at the same speed. At the higher end of the energy spectrum, relativistic kinetic energy is the main source of the mass-energy of cosmic rays.
The Oh-My-God particle, the highest-energy fermionic cosmic ray detected to date, had an energy of about 3×10²⁰ eV, while the highest-energy gamma rays to be observed, very-high-energy gamma rays, are photons with energies of up to 10¹⁴ eV. Hence, the highest-energy detected fermionic cosmic ray was around 3×10⁶times as energetic as the highest-energy detected cosmic photons.

Composition
Of primary cosmic rays, which originate outside of Earth's atmosphere, about 99% are the nuclei of well-known atoms (stripped of their electron shells), and about 1% are solitary electrons (similar to beta particles). Of the nuclei, about 90% are simple protons (i.e., hydrogen nuclei); 9% are alpha particles, identical to helium nuclei; and 1% are the nuclei of heavier elements, called HZE ions.^[7] A very small fraction are stable particles of antimatter, such as positrons or antiprotons. The precise nature of this remaining fraction is an area of active research. An active search from Earth orbit for anti-alpha particles has failed to detect them.

Energy
Cosmic rays attract great interest practically, due to the damage they inflict on microelectronics and life outside the protection of an atmosphere and magnetic field, and scientifically, because the energies of the most energetic ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) have been observed to approach 3 × 10²⁰ eV,^[8] about 40 million times the energy of particles accelerated by the Large Hadron Collider.^[9] One can show that such enormous energies might be achieved by means of the centrifugal mechanism of acceleration in active galactic nuclei. At 50 J,^[10] the highest-energy ultra-high-energy cosmic rays have energies comparable to the kinetic energy of a 90-kilometre-per-hour (56 mph) baseball. As a result of these discoveries, there has been interest in investigating cosmic rays of even greater energies.^[11] Most cosmic rays, however, do not have such extreme energies; the energy distribution of cosmic rays peaks at 0.3 gigaelectronvolts (4.8×10⁻¹¹ J).^[12]

'Superstar' Eta Carinae Acts Like a Ginormous Cosmic-Ray Gun, But Why?

A huge star system 7,500 light-years away is shooting out radiation at superhigh speeds. A new study with NASA's NuSTAR space telescope shows that Eta Carinae may act as an accelerator of charged particles, which are also called cosmic rays.
Eta Carinae is a famous hourglass-shaped gas cloud containing two massive stars orbiting each other: They are 30 and 90 times the mass of the sun, respectively. The system experienced an outburst in the 19th century and briefly became the second-brightest object in the sky. Astronomers, however, still struggle to understand the source of the outburst — and the dynamics of that star system in general.

NASA added that some of these superfast electrons, as well as other charged particles, likely escape Eta Carinae. Some of those particles may fly in Earth's direction, showing up here as cosmic-ray detections.

Abstract

Everything communicates! Communication forms, patterns and systems have been observed between living things of the same community as well as within their bodies. Zooming in to the particle level, the cosmos is full of radiation transmitting and exchanging energy (information) everywhere!

Chapter 77 and Chapter 51 of the Quran begin with oaths by the sent ones who are assigned various tasks, including reminders. Both chapters go on to state that what humans are promised (Day of Judgement) is bound to happen. Is there a teleological explanation for the elementary particles?

Everything communicates! Humans speaking, talking with each other, conveying news, communicating messages, transmitting orders, and so on are fairly commonplace experiences for us. Patterns and forms of communication have been observed/detected among some animals and plants as well. It has been discovered that our bodies are entire communication systems as the cells in the body communicate amongst themselves. Zooming in to the particle level, the cosmos is full of radiation transmitting and exchanging energy (information) everywhere! Is there a teleological explanation for the elementary particles?

The Qur’an, chapter 77 concludes with the question: ‘in what revelation, after this, will they believe?’ The chapter begins with the mention of the sent ones, one after the other. The phrasing of the first six verses is quite abstract. It speaks of the swift/violent ones, scatterers, separators/distinguishers, reminders/mentioners/informers, excusing or warning, all without any mention of the wind, angel or any such word we find in the various translations.

وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا فَالْعَاصِفَاتِ عَصْفًا وَالنَّاشِرَاتِ نَشْرًا3-1

4-6 فَالْفَارِقَاتِ فَرْقًا فَالْمُلْقِيَاتِ ذِكْرًا عُذْرًا أَوْ نُذْرًا

7 إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَاقِع

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ49

فَبِأَيِّ حَدِيثٍ بَعْدَهُ يُؤْمِنُونَ50

[Al-Qur’an, Translator: Sahih International] [77:1-7] By those [winds] sent forth in gusts And the winds that blow violently And [by] the winds that spread [clouds] And those [angels] who bring criterion And those [angels] who deliver a message As justification or warning, Indeed, what you are promised is to occur.

[77:49-50] Woe, that Day, to the deniers. Then in what statement after the Qur'an will they believe?

Also consider the first few verses of The Qur’an, Chapter 51

And indeed, the recompense is to occur.

[Al-Qur’an, Translator: Rev. J.M. Rodwell] [51:1-4] [Notes1] Lit. (I swear) by those which scatter (i.e., the rain) with a scattering, (2) and by those which carry a burden, (3) and by those which run lightly, (4) and by those which divide a matter, or by command.

The participles are all in the feminine: hence some interpret verse 1 of winds; verse 2 of clouds; verse 3 of ships; verse 4 of angels.

[51:5-6] True, indeed, is that with which ye are threatened, And lo! the judgment will surely come.

Space Communication

In today's age of space communication, it is easier to understand that data can and does indeed travel through space. We tune into and analyse radio and other waves coming from the cosmos, we communicate with satellites and probes sent to the Moon, Mars, comets, etc. Laser is now being used for satellite communication.

Radiation

‘Radiation is everywhere in the universe. Since the inception of time, lives on earth have been exposed to radiation in the natural environment… Radiation embraces electromagnetic waves (such as light, radiowaves, x-rays, etc.), ultrasound and particles (such as alpha (a) particles, beta (b) particles, etc.) emitted by radioactive materials as they decay… Radiation cannot be heard, seen, smelt nor tasted. Most of it cannot be felt. However, with the use of instruments, it can be detected and measured.’

Transmission

Quantum Mechanics and Particle Theory theorise about the how energy travels. The presence of Messenger Particles is postulated and debated. Though there are four Fundamental Forces, scientists theorise that on the most basic level, energy travels through all types of radiation in a similar way, as they are essentially different manifestations of the same force. Also being theorised is the potential discovery of Unknown Forces.

Teleological View of Radiation

Is there a purpose for all this radiation that is continuously travelling throughout space? Consider the following few verses:

[Al-Qur’an 65:12, Translator: Sahih International] It is Allah who has created seven heavens and of the earth, the like of them. [His] command descends among them so you may know that Allah is over all things competent and that Allah has encompassed all things in knowledge.

[Al-Qur’an 42:51, Translator: Sahih International] And it is not for any human being that Allah should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a partition or that He sends a messenger to reveal, by His permission, what He wills. Indeed, He is Most High and Wise.
