[Al-Quran 50:6-8] Have they not looked at the heaven above them - how We structured it and adorned it and how it has no rifts? And the earth - We spread it out and cast therein firmly set mountains and made grow therein [something] of every beautiful kind, Giving insight and a reminder for every servant who turns [to Allah].

Information as Medicine

Disease & Cure - XXVII

We send down (stage by stage) in the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe: to the unjust it causes nothing but loss after loss.

[Al-Quran 17:82, Translator: A. Yusuf Ali]

The Quran is a healing and a mercy to those who believe in it. To believe in it means to try to follow the guidance. To not to follow the guidance means to do 'zulm' on our own nafs. 'Zulm' means darkness, and is often translated as 'wrong'. Every time we sin, we wrong our nafs, or rather put it in darkness.

These days, studies are being made into energy fields around the body, and around individual body parts. Conventional molecular medicine is slowly giving way to a quantum field or something, in hopes of a more holistic cure. The researchers are exploring energy fields and the information they carry / contain / transmit / imprint. The heart seems to play a particularly central role in the healing. Emerging research suggests that we are information systems.

Many centuries ago, the scriptures were revealed and prayer was ordained, and the method taught. Reciting portions of the scripture in prayer is part of the ritual. The last revealed scripture is The Quran. Muslims have been taught to recite Surah al-Fateha and a few ayaat of Al-Quran in every ritualistic prayer.

The Quran contains information, revealed by The Creator. It provides guidance. It exhorts that we pay attention, and use our 'aql' (intelligence). Another ayat (Q22:46) informs us that the 'aql' is in the heart (qalb). We have been directed to listen to, and pay attention, when The Quran is being recited, so that we receive mercy (Q7:204).

The Quran was revealed upon the heart of the Prophet Muhammad  in stages, to strengthen his feelings and emotions (Q25:32 (فُؤَادَكَ)).

Feelings and emotions (الْأَفْئِدَةَ), the ability to listen (السَّمْعَ), and the ability to envision (الْأَبْصَارَ), are blessings especially appointed by Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى‎ for us. We need to be especially grateful for all of them. A grateful heart is a wise heart. Gratitude was the wisdom bestowed upon Luqman, the healer, who has an entire surah (Q31) named after him.
