The Quran quotes Job (Ayub عليه السلام)'s two supplication.
The first is in Surah al-Anbiya (The Prophets), which is quoted at the beginning of this post. In it he supplicates that indeed he has been touched (أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ) by adversity (الضُّرُّ).
The second supplication is mentioned in Surah Saad. In it, Job (Ayub عليه السلام) specifically mentions that indeed he has been touched (أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ), by The Shaitan (الشَّيْطَانُ), with nusb ( بِنُصْبٍ) and azaab (عَذَابٍ).
So, the adversity (الضُّرُّ) mentioned in Q21:83 is explained in Q38:41 as nusb (بِنُصْبٍ) and azaab (عَذَابٍ) inflicted by The Shaitan (الشَّيْطَانُ).
Presuppositions
