[Al-Quran 50:6-8] Have they not looked at the heaven above them - how We structured it and adorned it and how it has no rifts? And the earth - We spread it out and cast therein firmly set mountains and made grow therein [something] of every beautiful kind, Giving insight and a reminder for every servant who turns [to Allah].

And among His Signs (is) that He created you from dust then behold! You (are) human beings dispersing. And among His Signs (is) that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you love and mercy. Indeed, in that surely (are) Signs for a people who reflect. And among His Signs (is the) creation (of) the heavens and the earth, and the diversity (of) your languages and your colors. Indeed, in that surely (are) Signs for those of knowledge.

Atheists  and Creationists keep arguing for and against the Theory of Evolution. The Theory of Evolution itself has undergone many changes as we humans attempt to refine our understanding of the natural world.
The following is a collection of verses from the Quran providing insights into the creation of humans. I have labelled headings and sequenced the verses as per my understanding of the subject.

Earthly Origins
[Al-Qur’an 71:17, Translator: Sahih International] And Allah has caused you to grow from the earth a [progressive] growth.

Pre-historic Humans
[Al-Qur’an 76:1, Translator: Sahih International] Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned?

or if the above translation is read without the text in box brackets [], then it seems to state the exact opposite, as in this translation:

[Al-Qur’an 76:1, Translator: Pickthall]  Hath there come upon man (ever) any period of time in which he was a thing unremembered?
[Al-Qur’an 76:1, Translator: Arberry] Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered?

Perfection through Evolution
[Al-Qur’an 32:7-9, Translator: Sahih International] Who perfected everything which He created and began the creation of man from clay. Then He made his posterity out of the extract of a liquid disdained. Then He proportioned him and breathed into him from His [created] soul and made for you hearing and vision and hearts; little are you grateful.

Sequence of Development
[Al-Qur’an 82:7, Translator: Pickthal] Who created thee, then fashioned, then proportioned thee?

Creation of the Male and the Female
[Al-Qur’an 7:189, Translator: Sahih International] It is He who created you from one soul and created from it its mate that he might dwell in security with her. And when he covers her, she carries a light burden and continues therein. And when it becomes heavy, they both invoke Allah , their Lord, "If You should give us a good [child], we will surely be among the grateful.”

Human from Semen

[Al-Qur’an 75:36-39, Translator: Sahih International] Does man think that he will be left neglected? Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted? Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allah] created [his form] and proportioned [him] And made of him two mates, the male and the female. Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?

From Quadrupeds to Bipeds?
[Al-Qur’an 67:22-24, Translator: Sahih International] Then is one who walks fallen on his face better guided or one who walks erect on a straight path? Say, "It is He who has produced you and made for you hearing and vision and hearts; little are you grateful.”  Say, " It is He who has multiplied you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.”

Humans chose to bear the Trust
[Al-Qur’an 33:72, Translator: Sahih International]  Indeed, we offered the Trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, and they declined to bear it and feared it; but man [undertook to] bear it. Indeed, he was unjust and ignorant.

Human design pre-wired with Knowledge?
[Al-Qur’an 55:1-4, Translator: Sahih International]  The Most Merciful Taught the Qur’an, Created man, [And] taught him eloquence

Conscience
[Al-Qur’an 91:7-8, Translator: Sahih International] And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness

Destiny and Guidance
[Al-Qur’an 87:2-3, Translator: Sahih International]  Who created and proportioned, And Who destined and [then] guided

Creation of Adam
[Al-Qur’an 2:30,31, Translator: Sahih International] And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority." They said, "Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?" Allah said, "Indeed, I know that which you do not know.” And He taught Adam the names - all of them. Then He showed them to the angels and said, "Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful.”

Creation of Adam similar to Creation of Jesus [neither was the first human being]
[Al-Qur’an 3:59, Translator: Sahih International] Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created Him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was.

Accountability of The Progeny of Adam
[Al-Qur’an 7:172-174, Translator: Sahih International] And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "Yes, we have testified." [This] - lest you should say on the day of Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware.” Or [lest] you say, "It was only that our fathers associated [others in worship] with Allah before, and we were but descendants after them. Then would You destroy us for what the falsifiers have done?” And thus do We [explain in] detail the verses, and perhaps they will return.

Guidance for Humans
[Al-Qur’an 30:30, Translator: Sahih International] So direct your face toward the religion, inclining to truth. [Adhere to] the fitrah of Allah upon which He has created [all] people. No change should there be in the creation of Allah . That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know.

  1. It is not clear from neither the Quran nor science that Darwinian evolution is how species have evolved so far. The evidence to support some kind of 'Darwinian-style' transformation through gradual mutation is too scant. There is clearly a gradual evolution during creation of the Universe and life over billions of years based on fossil and other evidence so far, however that does not mean that totally chance/random mutation can result or has ever resulted in the creation of another species. Please google "Harun Yahya" who has also compiled good evidence about that.

    1. I agree! I believe whatever it states in the Quran, and I also admit that there are gaps in my understanding.
God is the master-creator and everything is exactly as per His designs and His processes.
I also believe that He reserves the right to make changes in His creation as and whenever He wills, and that He has not allowed us to make any changes in His creation. This is a very relevant and pertinent issue for our times when advances in genetic engineering are building the momentum towards transhumanism. Please see the post Mission of the Messengers in this blog.
